Twice this morning my Internet has cut out which has caused some kind of issue/bug for me with connecting.

Firstly, the options dialog decides to open when it wants to reconnect to a server. (I have no idea why, it didn't in 7.1)

Secondly, mIRC refused to try any further than the first attempt to reconnect to servers 3 ~ 6, but did retry for the first two. (1 & 2 reconnected about 10:35)

Quote:
-
[10:34:22] * [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
[10:34:22] * Disconnected
-
[10:34:31] * Connect retry #1 irc.globalgamers.net (6667)
-
[10:34:31] * Unable to resolve server
-
[11:45:52] * Connecting to irc.globalgamers.net (6667)
-
[11:45:54] -irc.globalgamers.net- *** Looking up your hostname

(However one of the two servers for my second connection did go down this morning which also gave me these specific problems.)

Only after some human intevention would it connect to anything.

And the only way I could do this was right clicking the connection icon from the toolbar and selecting the server from that, clicking the icon caused the options dialog to re-open... (I've yet to test doing /server ...)

The only time mIRC will display the Options dialog during a connection attempt is if basic details, such as nickname, server address or port are not available. Previous versions of mIRC also behaved this way. Did you notice whether these details were available when the dialog opened?

Regarding the connection issue, did you wait to see whether the connection attempt timed out? mIRC was probably waiting for a reply from Winsock, which itself was trying to re-establish a connection. I see this occasionally with other applications when an internet connection is cut, most often with Firefox which stops being able to browse websites and then lingers in the background, frozen, when I exit it.

I've managed to pinpoint the cause.

It's due to clearing the recent servers/network history using that new clear history feature.

I did the following on a fresh install on my old laptop:

1. Loaded a win32 IRCd called beware
2. Connected to localhost
3. Cleared the servers/network history
4. Killed the IRCd
5. mIRC doesn't know what to do...

I took a video reproducing it here.

This issue does not occur if you edit the servers.ini manually. (Video here.)

This is by design - the clear history feature clears all connection history - your current connection details are part of that history since they are saved to mirc.ini on exit. I could leave your current connection details intact, however that would leave some history in mirc.ini.

I honestly wouldn't mind the history in mirc.ini. :3

Then don't clear it. There are those who would like to clear all history from mIRC and that is what this new feature is for.
