just updated to mIRC 7.1 and wondering why the /loadbuf and /filter method does not work like in mIRC 6.35.

Both commands in mIRC 7.1 do not load the specified amount of lines to a window - max lines is limited by setting Window buffer in Options -> Other.

/loadbuf and /filter in mIRC 6.35 are not limited by Window buffer in Options -> Other

due to this behaviour, it's not possible to view a complete log file in a custom window.

increasing the overall window buffer is not a workaround, because it's affecting all channel windows...

is there any important reason for this change?

This was changed because the behaviour was not consistent. Using /loadbuf or /filter would initially load that number of lines into a window but the moment a new line was added to the window after that, the buffer limit was applied and lines were trimmed to the buffer size.

The latest public beta of mIRC v7.11 allows you to get around that with the /window -jN command, which can be used to set the buffer limit for a particular window.

Thanks Khaled for your fast reply, searched that option already in 7.1 ;-)

Problem solved :-)

Wasn't it so that the buffer limit was applied (lines trimmed) with /echo but not with /aline? With /aline there would be no lines lost, so was already a solution without extra /window switches?

This applies to use with the /filter command. Usually /echo or /aline is no workable alternative in these cases.
