I'm having a problem trying to run a website from IRC. I have no problem if someone posts a link and double clicking that. My problem is trying to do it from the chat box.

I used to be able to type /run www.google.com and it would come up in IE. Now I just get this message: * /run: unable to open file 'www.google.com'

IE will still come up, but nothing opens. This doesnst happen if I already have IE open, the link will just open up in a new tab.

Any help?

Does /url http://google.com work?

Also, what version is this, and what OS are you on?

...im an idiot. i never even thought of using /url, but yes that DID work

as for what version and browser im using, latest version of both mirc and internet explorer. it's weird though, the /run will work just fine if i switch to google chrome

i guess ill just start using /url instead. i just hate it when things randomly stop working for no reason at all!

try resetting IE as the default browser .. /run "should" work with the default browser (which is probably why Google Chrome works)

It's possible the filetype setup for HTTP in Windows isn't correct for what IE wants. He said it works when IE is open (so it works for opening a new tab), but doesn't open it in a new window. I'm not sure what IE wants as a command line format for the filetype settings in Windows to make that happen.

i tried resetting IE as the default browser as well, but that didnt fix it.

i really think it's more of an IE problem than irc...considering it works fine with chrome. but who knows, im really not all that computer savvy

ill just have to get used to typing /url instead smile
