Could anyone enlighten me about one thing: i can't connect to a particular irc network. the error message is: Closing Link: Baum_wrk by multiplay.uk.quakenet.org (USER: Bad username) and the weird thing is that i used to be able to connect to that net either from home or from work.
PS: changing nicks doesn't work.

Make sure your specified email and identd don't contain any special characters.

1) I use the same settings as i used when i was able to connect to this net.
2) I have NO problems with other nets e.g. dalnet.

the message i'm receiving is the following:
* Connect retry #1 irc.quakenet.org (6668) (dns pool)
-
-irc.quakenet.org- *** Looking up your hostname
-
-irc.quakenet.org- *** Checking Ident
-
-irc.quakenet.org- *** Found your hostname
-
-irc.quakenet.org- *** No ident response
-
Your username is invalid.
Connect with your real username, in lowercase.
If your mail address were foo@bar.com, your username would be foo.
-
Closing Link: bauman by port80b.se.quakenet.org (USER: Bad username)

and whatever my nick is, it keeps slamming the door shut right before my face.

As I thought I made clear, "username" does not refer to your nickname; it refers to either your ident or the first part of your email address. I note that your identd isn't working, so you only need to endure that you are not using any special characters in the email field and that it is all lowercase (as the server told you to).

I'm sure your identd or email are different... even if the only difference is that you put them in lowercase instead of having capital letters. You kept talking about nick and it was mentioned twice that the error has nothing to do with your nick.

Btw, those kinds of messages are based on rules for the specific network that you get the errors from. Just because it works fine on other networks doesn't mean much because other networks may not have the same rules (and usually don't).
