I can't be the only one who finds the topic editor in mIRC a total pain the arse.

Could it not be made such that there was a box in which the topic is edited, rather than a line which is pretty difficult to navigate in long topics.

If you mean to say that you would like to see the channel topic to be wrapped in the /channel dialog, then yes, that could be useful.

You can't have a drop-down combobox style control if you have a multiline textarea afaik. This would mean Khaled would have to write a pretty complex custom control to support listbox-style dropdown, or he would have to add a dropdown listbox beneath or above the multiline textbox which would become confusing.

If you can think of a *standard* way to have a multiline textbox that retains the recent topic history, that would probably help. I'm not sure it would be such a great idea to mix in all these custom controls into Windows these days.

A possible solution would be to place a button next to the dropdown menu labeled something like "Rich Edit".
This would switch the dropdown menu with an editbox holding the topic that was selected in the dropdown menu.

Not ideal, but feasible.

I like this idea. Also nice, but maybe harder to do, would be a realtime preview, to see the colours and such properly...

With regards to the history dilemma, couldn't you just keep the drop-down in that single line and somehow transfer the contents of that revision to the edit box?
