I am a complete newbie to mIRC. I know the server name and channel # I type that information under server I "added" server name and group#

Left "Local info" blank.

Idnt my id, then system it says unix I use windows xp?

Firewall says none and I don't know what to fill in and where I gather that info if needed. Host name, user ID, and password.

I get Local host: and the name and router number IP in green

Says "unable to resolve server" in blue

I am on Time Warner Road Runner I use a linksys router befsr41
XP Pro sp3. I use Zone Alarm and gave all four permisions for internet access and server access.

Am I asking the impossible. How do I get to the server and channel I want to connect to.

At one point I read in help about needing my IP number. How do I find that?

At one point I had port 113 forwarded on the linksys to a high port number on the linksys setup. I have since deleted that.

Thanks in advance
Cel

What is the server and channel name you want to get to?

You simply type:

/server THESERVERNAME -j #THECHANNELNAME

In any window in mIRC

- argv[0] on EFnet #mIRC
- "Life is a pointer to an integer without a cast"

copd-international is not a server. A server is like a hostname, it should look like "something.com", "something.net" or "something.org"

Generally for IRC you'll have the irc. prefix, so it will be irc.something.[com/net/org/...]

You should look up the actual server name.

- argv[0] on EFnet #mIRC
- "Life is a pointer to an integer without a cast"

I don't know where you got your information from, but double check it to ensure that you have the network address name correct.

As stated, it should be in the format of irc.network_name.com
or similar

I did a search for the network name you specified, and couldn't find a network with that name.

Sounds like I don't have all I need from them.

Thank you folks for trying to assist me. I will be back later today with the correct info. I will follow your instructions and see where it takes me.

Take Care
Celeste

Well they are not responding to email requests for info so I was wondering if maybe we can go in another direction if you folks don't mind.

I would like to at least test out the program so any resource server and channel # that you know the info for maybe I could try to connect to that and confirm that this program is working.

Could you give me known resource and let me see if I can connect

I have 27 days left to experiment with this program.

Thanks

Just to let you know this issue has been resolved. Consider it closed.

I finally found someone in the chat who was using mIRC and not the web based java. They walked me in.

Thank you argv0 and RusselB for working so hard to get me up and running in the wee hours of the morning

The server was not listed in the server list I had to add it that is why you couldn't find it in the list.

Take care
Celeste
