I am using IRC search engine packetnews . When i copy file it wont paste to mirc. right click paste function is grayed out on mouse. copy and paste function works fine with other sources such as text etc. This problem just occurred the other day. is this a mirc or packetnews issue? packetnews has no help forum or customer service email

The paste option is (often) greyed out if there is no text in the clipboard memory from a copy command.
Did you try highlighting the information from packetnews, pressing Ctrl+C (for the copy), then seeing if the paste option is available? If not, try that. If you did and it still didn't work, then there is something with packetnews that is disallowing windows copy command.

Appreciate the help but this appears to be a big problem .Th e paste option is back but its not pasting the packetnews file when i left click on the file. When i edited my comment on the MIRC message board i copied it and thats what got pasted on mirc. What a total disaster . Its copying and pasting text but for some reason it wont copy paste packetnews file on mirc and that is really going to screw me up. It wont work with the highlight copy and then Ctl V paste Why is windows doing this to me now?

mIRC is a text based chat client-- why would it accept non-text paste input? More importantly, why are you trying to paste a file onto an IRC client?

What web-browser are you using? Firefox, at least, doesn't allow websites read/write access to the clipboard by default.

I just realized there are no slot openings on packetnews which is why i cant copy paste to MIRC. I dont know if this is only on my PC or affecting others or a system glitch with packetnews.com. Can someone check packetnews.com and see if there are any slot openings on the board. for ex: 3/5 12/20 etc etc . If you are familiar with packetnews you will understand what i am referring to . Doesnt matter what browser i am using none of them are able to paste because the issue is either with packetnews or something blocking it on my PC

Hi,
I have the same problem where P.N. either wont copy or paste into mirc to request a packet. I'm not that familar with either P.N. or mirc but I have a feeling it must be something to do with P.N or windows security updates. Please anyone with any infor for a fix would be most appreciated.

Thats reassuring knowing the problem is not directly on my end. If the slot box on PN is empty that means you cant copy and paste text to MIRC. PN has no message boards or tech forum so that makes it even more difficult. I was going to try another PC but now that you told me you are having the same issue i wont bother. Please if there is anyone else that can log into PN and let us know if you are having the same problem.

Thats reassuring knowing the problem is not directly on my end. It seems to be across the board I know of at least 3 other people who have the same problem. I am doing as much research / investigating as much as I can, changing my security settings etc to see if that helps but nothing has changed as yet. I am still conviced since I have done my windows update that this cause the problems. I have also read that remote desktop client can cause the problem but have got nowhere with this as yet. I will keep you posted. By the way I have used both firefox (which never allowed me to paste) I.E always worked but this has now failed.

If you go on a friends PC or check internet from outside source and the slots numbers are vacant , then its an issue with packetnews and not your windows updates. I just completely reformated my PC to factory settings hoping that might help but i still have the same problem. If this is some type of windows security issue it was more than likely implemented just the other day.

I have also tried over the past 3 days using packetnews as well with MIRC and I have not been able to copy and past feature is grayed out and usuable.
I have even reset my configeration in IE7 to allow scripting below but this has not helped at all. I have looked all over the web but no luck to find a solution to why this happening. Any ideas would be helpful RTA
Do you want to allow this webpage to access your Clipboard? If you allow this, the webpage can access the Clipboard and read information that you’ve cut or copied recently. You will then need to press or click “Don’t Allow” or “Allow” button to get pass the popup message. This security feature can be disabled. To disable the pop up warning message about possible harmful or unauthorized Clipboard access, follow the steps below: 1. Go to Tools -> Internet Options. 2. Go to Security tab. 3. Select “Internet” zone, then click on “Custom level…” button. 4. Scroll down to “Scripting” section (at the bottom few). 5. Under “Allow Programmatic clipboard access” option, check or select (tick) Enable. Default action for this option is Prompt, which cause the pop-up message whenever there is any attempt to access the Clipboard. 6. Click Ok twice to exit from Internet Options. Changing the preference to Enable for “Allow Programmatic clipboard access” option can increase security risk. You can set it to Disable to disallow all website’s access to Clipboard’s resident data. However, the better and more secure alternative is to edit the “Allow Programmatic clipboard access” setting for “Trusted sites” zone (steps same as above, only that you select “Trusted sites” in step 3 instead of “Internet”), and add the websites that you trusted and selected into Trusted sites zone.

I used to get on IE7 teh "Do you want the webpage to allow access the clipboard" in the past 3 days but since then, packetnews has not worked for copy and paste and I have enabled this feature in IE7 to allow access for scipting but I have been unsuccesful to use Packetnews. I ahve looked on google, Microsoft, and here and see that I am not the only person having this issue.
Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks RFTA

This really sucks . Is there any way around this PN issue? I relied on them as the last resort to share files after IRCspy went out of biz

Noting details in this post, specifically Many depend on PN as the only real file sharing source since IRCspy went down. , I refer to this sticky.
