Greetings,
Mirc has a Invite list found in the channel selections, by choosing 'change other room settings', then clicking on 'Invite'. Background: We are running a automated Invite Only Mode for several minutes to ward off the swarms of porn bots. However currently the only options we have for those knocking and trying to enter is for them to use a feature called find a friend, or for someone in the chatroom to manually enter /invite nicname or for one of our hosts to turn off the invite only mode remotely via @inviteoff I'm looking for another option, that being to load up the invite list in mIRC to permit those users on that list instant access regardless if the invite mode is on. I just don't have any format for the Invite List file to build upon, no examples, no filename. The internal editor in mIRC doesn't seem to function either for the Invite List. However, I'm certain windows notepad would work fine as a editor.
How do I setup the Invite List in mIRC? What is the format used, and the filename?
Thanks for your help and insights,
MDA

Depending on what kind of services are available on your network, you may just be able to set the channel modes to allow only java guest and registered users. Spam bots are highly unlikely to be using registered nicks, so this works quite well. The only drawback is that if an unregistered user wants to get into the channel, and they're using an irc client, they can't - but sometimes that's not such a bad thing, and overall the amount of spam has been reduced by 100%. In addition to your usual channel modes, type in /chanserv mode #channel +JjR - hopefully your ircd will support these modes. Not sure if that was exactly what you were looking for, but hope it helps anyway. You could always ask in one of the help channels on your network too.
Never compare yourself to others - they're more screwed up than you think.

Greetings Poppy,
Thanks for your time and consideration. Sorry but that channel is on the msn chat servers and no it doesn't support java per say and yes those porn bots are registered. It appears that only some irc services support the use of invite lists, that's perhaps the reason there's no documentation or help list on that feature other than a tiny generic try /invite nickname $chan suggestion. We're still hopeful something can be found or we can get more information on the Invite List in mIRC and actually set it up and use it. We've tried adding the knockers on the invite door thru the access commands to add Voice and even a momentary Grant to their nicknames, neither of those helped them to enter thru the Invite block thou. The pornbots use a automated nickname registration, so they can pull up new ones every 24 hours replacing their previous nicnames and accounts. Some are satisfied with just blocking their accounts and/or nicnames but those change every 24 hours mostly and they swarm in like mosquitos. The automated Invite mode limits their access and porn bot operators don't spend any time tapping their toes waiting for that mode to switch off, they go on to other more accessable channels. The automated invite mode is triggered on a set number of porn bots detected in the channel and is turned on for a brief period of time. That's alittle more background than I wanted to give here, but that's the skinny!
Regards, MDA

mirc is not allowed in MSN ....... thats all i can say ...... but ...... why not setting a channel key like everyone else would have thought of ..... giving that channel key to the members of your channel ..... that would keep your channel members protected from these porn bots ...... or go and move ur channel where u can use ur mirc script to properly run a room ......... thats the only suggestions ill give on this and i would hope no one else would help u any further with this here

Greetings _D3m0n_,
mIRC isn't endorsed on msn/compaq chat servers, as to your statements otherwise you [deleted by moderator]. As per your suggestion of placing a key in the active channel and users registry would be ok for our staff and regular visitors, however that would prevent new visitors from entering the chatroom that didn't know what that key was. As to your flaming comments about properly running our multiple chatrooms, you don't have a clue when you tell us some off the wall trash like that. I rather doubt you would visit our chatrooms because we would certainly cast your sorry butt into the warmer regions where your posted comments belong. However your'e welcome to visit any of our chatrooms anytime you wish. We've logged over 40,000 new visitors in the past 3 months and that doesn't count those that just changed their nicnames either, nor does that count our webtv visitors.
I look forward to your visit soon!
Best Regards, MDA

MDA i dont see how u telling me my comments dont belong ...... Mirc is infact blocked access to msn servers ..... amoderator here also emailed and found this out for a fact ......... its not my problem ur breaking the servers policy ... and normally i wouldnt even give any suggestion to help u but instead i gave the key as one ........ again i cant think of any reason i should help u come up with ideas but i will say this ..... i do ty for your invite to your channel ........ altho ur right it is a safe bet i wont be connecting to msn and coming in to say hello ........ and that is only because i choose not to break a servers policy and chat where mirc is not wanted ..... im sorry if my morals interfere with your chat times ..... i do hope u resolve this but im sure u can do it without my help

There is no need to resort to name calling and insults. Gee, how nice of you to invite someone to visit you so that you can "..certainly cast" them out.
I didnt take D3mOn's comment as in any way telling you how to run your channel (or channels). Pointing out that using mIRC where its features are supported and not in conflict with other variables hardly warrants being rude to him.
