I've sent an email to tjerk on Sept 2 regarding mIRC distribution, the email contained all the info as requested on http://www.mirc.com/ftpserving.html but I haven't heard anything back.

Can someone check into this please?

P.S: can someone get me the account details of my old forum account (MajorWinters)? I can not remember the password and no longer own the (email)domain that was used to register it.

Thank you,
Stijn Bienkens

As far as the ftp serving goes, you need to be patient. Khaled is the only person who can reply to you on this issue. Perhaps he is busy, or perhaps he's not looking for any extra (official) mirrors (afaik he's switching to download.com anyway).

Ah didn't know that, I thought someone else was managing the website. Download.com is nice but very slow download speeds.

Download.com slow? Maybe not blazing fast but I wouldn't quite call 600kb/s slow, especially not for a ~1.5mb file.

That would be a serious problem with your isp. I can't fathom download.com serving at 10kb/s anywhere in the world (unless that's your down limit on your connection), given how big they are.

Having your ISP advertise a speed doesn't mean it's not going to have problems delivering that speed. Like I said, 10kb/s from a major website on any high-speed line is likely a problem with your ISP's routing, not the site itself. An interesting article that came up while looking up this download.com speed issue came from dslreports:

pinging tiny packets one a second at the destination. Watch the sequence numbers printed .. leave it running for a short time, say 30 seconds, then press control-c. Final packet loss statistics will be printed. If you see 5% or more packet loss, then TCP performance is going to be poor over this link.

I also found only one thread on CNET (download.com's owner) that claimed the site was slow. Other than that one user who's in your boat, I don't see much reason to believe that download.com is at fault here.

I never claimed that CNET was responsible for the slow download speeds when downloading from one of their servers, but the fact remains that it's slow so it might be good to have a few alternatives.

Yes I am aware that there are several mirrors, I simply have the ability to contribute another mirror (dedicated server 100Mbps connection) so I applied to help out, that's it.

Whoever got me my old account back, thank you.
