$input should return $cancel in some cases always.

e. g.: $input(?,e)

It returns all the time $null even if i click on cancel.

How should i make sure what button was clicked if the returning value is all the time the same?

Same for: $input(?,y) (which returns $true and $false but $yes and $no would be better in that case)

Also $input(?,n) returns on no also $false as it does on cancel.

For what are $yes, $no and $cancel if they aren't in use?

You need to use the v switch as documented in /help $input to get $yes/$no/$cancel.
