Hello

I have used mIRC for a few years now without any problems, however I won't say I know a lot about using it.This is why I have joined this forum, as I have tried to connect to mIRC tonight through a search engine.The download started straight away but after about 30 seconds mIRC closed down.I tried to connect direct to mIRC to check out options and the same thing happened.
I am using mIRC 6.31 and Windows xp sp2.

Any advise

im no expert, but here is something to ponder.
seems to me your mirc is conflicting with something causing it to close. it maybe a virus checker or process scanner that flags mirc as a unwanted process and closed it.. what virus software do you run?

The only place that will give you a guaranteed safe and un-modified copy of mIRC is from http://www.mirc.com/get.html.
If you get mIRC from any other location, and there are lots of them out there, you risk getting a version that contains unwanted scripts, viruses, trojans, adware, and/or spyware (etc.)

If you didn't get your copy from the above location, I recommend:
1) Uninstall your current version
2) Download from the above link
3) Install the newly downloaded version using the Update option.
3a) If the installation does not complete, or mIRC fails to run after installation, temporarily disable your anti-virus program and re-install.

have you tried running mirc with your virus program disabled?

Tried uninstalling program and installing again - Didn't work
Tried turning off Anti Virus - Didn't work

Any other ideas?

Ok, ive use AVG for years myself never had a problem with it interfering with any programs causing them to close. The closing down could be, as what was stated above, a result of you getting the mIRC install exe from a 3rd party download site and it came with a virus or something of the like with it that terminates the program as its loading. I would suggest going with whats in about the 3rd or 4th post and removing the copy of mIRC you have now and downloading and installing a copy from the official mIRC site.

Restored computer settings back about 10 days and it seems to have done the trick.
