I have a little question, with mIRC v6.31.

How do it store information? Not in mirc.ini? It only contains [chanfolder]?

In older versions there is alot more info?

What?

Your files are probably in your Application Data folder, because 6.31 changes where your files are stored unless you are installing over a previous version or manually override that functionality.

type //run $mircdir from within mirc (with two slashes).

mIRC doesn't install a .chw file. mirc.chm is the mIRC help file.

I was going to reply and say don't you mean .chm?...

But now I have a .chw as well... Not sure what it is though.
It seems to contain alot about $topic though.
It might list all commands and aliases

Not sure what it is... anyone?

Most file extension databases mention it as "HTML Help General Index". Presumably it aids with searching the help file.

It's going to come back if it's used by the CHM help system in Windows. Just leave it.

If I recall right, CHW is to CHM what GID is to HLP.

If you rename mirc.chm to mirchelp.chm, then mirchelp.chw should be created. Don't forget to rename it back to mirc.chm.

~ Edit ~
I can't seem to get it to create the .chw file here.

If you do a fresh install of mIRC 6.31 and open mirc.ini located in mircdir/defaults/ it only contains [chanfolder] and some channels. Nothing else, can someone please tell me why?

mirc.exe populates mirc.ini with the default settings if they're not present, so the installer doesn't need to. The reason for not putting the default favourites list in the executable as well is probably to make it easier to maintain.

OK, you seem to be confused: The defaults directory is not your current settings, it is the 'template' for settings files that will be created for each user of your computer the first time they run mIRC.

Your personal settings are located within your own user directory, at <DRIVE>:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\mIRC (on XP), <DRIVE>:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\mIRC (on Vista), and something slightly different on earlier versions of Windows. The Application Data/AppData directory is hidden (by Windows, not mIRC), so the easiest way to get to the folder is to open mIRC and type //run $mircdir

Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and stupid comments are intentional.
