Wud appreciate some assistance here, please.

- I have downloaded & installed IRC
- I can log on to random servers
- When I try logging into irc.freenode.net, error says "Unable to connect to server (Connection refused)"

What strikes me as unusual is that there was no option to even choose a password anywhere during the installation process!?

All advise appreciated.

Best,

There aren't usually passwords for IRC. If there is one, you usually have to manually (or with a script) send it to the server once connected. Connection refused can mean multiple things, from a server being full, not allowing any connections while maintenance is being done on it, incorrect port when connecting, issues with your router/firewall, etc. Check out the sticky threads about being unable to connect.

Hi

Today I have tried to connect again but mirc generates a new error which reads:

* Connect retry #9 irc.freenode.net (6667) (dns pool)
-
-irc.freenode.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-irc.freenode.net- *** Checking ident
-
-irc.freenode.net- *** Found your hostname
-
-irc.freenode.net- *** No identd (auth) response
-
Closing Link: 127.0.0.1 (Invalid username [n=g.forumz])

What can I do to successfully log into irc.freenode.net please?
