The update for mIRC 6.3 said there was going to be U3 support... yet we don't have it yet. frown

#1 you're a version behind, we're on 6.31
#2 there is U3 support.

It would have been nice to have seen some sort of explanation about mIRC's U3 Support, Anyhow, I think I seen something on mircscripts.org that will help you

The_JD: U3 is well explained in a google search, specifically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3

mIRC doesn't have to explain much on its end, the support should be relatively transparent to the user-- though you can always peek through versions.txt for such answers

Code:
36.Added internal U3 support to mIRC. mIRC looks for these command
line parameters -appStart, -appStop, and -hostCleanUp, and looks
for U3_HOST_EXEC_PATH and U3_APP_DATA_PATH environment variables.

Again, the user needs not know about these command line switches, as they're used transparently by the U3 device.

1) I'm not behind. I was referring to the versions.txt file when 6.3 came out, that said there was going to be U3 support.
2) Yes, you said there is U3 support already. Not clearly, and I don't know what you're talking about.
3) I want a full U3 program of mIRC. Not just mIRC running from the flash drive: that can be done with any flash drive, with or without U3.

Getting mIRC on U3 is a little complicated for most users, and I wouldnt call it "Transparent" yet.

Anyhow, I've seen it (and used it). I still prefer to use the -portable switch :p

You *are* behind if you were referring to anything from 6.3, since 6.3 is old news. As I said, U3 has been implemented since then.

I quoted the versions.txt showing how U3 has been implemented, are you arguing with fact, or are you stating that it doesn't work? I don't know what you're talking about. I don't think you do either.

"a full U3 program of mIRC" doesn't make sense. Learn about the feature you're suggesting, because mIRC is likely as U3 compliant as it can be. Running programs from a flash drive is exactly the point of U3, I don't know what else you're expecting.

My point is, the U3 implementation in mIRC may be incomplete, I'm not sure, but it surely has been implemented at least partly-- is there something specific about U3 that mIRC does not comply with?

I am not behind. I have used 6.31 since 3 days after it came out, and it only took 3 days because I was waiting for a .DLL to be updated to work with 6.31.

You quoted useless infomation to me. I don't know what that "code" or what ever it is means or does, or how to use it.

A full mIRC for U3 program would be availible on http://U3.com for download for use on U3 enabled Flash Drives, if it were done how mIRC said it was going to be done in the versions.txt file that came with 6.3. It is not.

From Wiki
Quote:
U3 applications
To be fully U3 compliant, an application has to be programmed to clean up its own data from the local machine. It must also be packaged in U3's special program format. U3 applications will only run from a U3 device.

I doubt mIRC will ever be made to "only be run from a U3 device". There's nothing wrong with mIRC being able to be run from other locations as well. And considering mIRC doesn't leave anything on the computer if you use the appropriate switches, that's been covered even before 6.31. And there's no reason why mIRC should be downloadable from U3's site.

I recently got a U3 memory stick, so have made a U3 installer for mIRC.

argv0 has made a lovely website for it: http://kthx.net/u3mirc/

Hopefully this will suit your needs.

Collective, that's pretty nice, but are we allowed to redistribute the mIRC installer?

I made a fully compliant PortableApps version, Havn't released it to the public as i'm not sure Khaled would like this... (im sure there is something about redistributing).

Yes there is, and if Khaled asks for it to be taken down it will be. Until then I don't mind 'bending' the rules a little, as there's no other way for people to use mIRC's U3 functionality without making their own installer.

Yeh, I thought it was kinda odd... Maybe Khaled should comment on this?

I mean, you can't expect your average joe to know how to make a U3/PortableApps application, can you?

mIRC is share/freeware anyway, right?
share/freeware has to be redistributable to be called such

I'm going to try that package U3 version just for the hell of it.
