That's because it's a server command, not mIRC. Try /onotice

~ Edit ~
And not all servers support /wallchops either.

I beg to differ. If it was an ircd only command I wouldn't be able to use /wallchops on networks like DALnet.

-> punch.va.us.dal.net wallchops
<- :punch.va.us.dal.net 421 katsklaw wallchops :Unknown command

Yet I can send /wallchops #channel message on ANY network I connect to.

-> punch.va.us.dal.net JOIN #test-mirc-bug
<- :katsklaw!~Amathaon@*.mindspring.com JOIN :#test-mirc-bug
-> punch.va.us.dal.net MODE #test-mirc-bug
<- :punch.va.us.dal.net 353 katsklaw = #test-mirc-bug :@katsklaw
<- :punch.va.us.dal.net 366 katsklaw #test-mirc-bug :End of /NAMES list.
<- :punch.va.us.dal.net 324 katsklaw #test-mirc-bug +
<- :punch.va.us.dal.net 329 katsklaw #test-mirc-bug 1201961436
-> punch.va.us.dal.net NOTICE @#test-mirc-bug :hi there

Please note the server names. /wallchops is an ircd command on some ircd's .. but not ALL ircds.

Try for yourself. Go to DALnet, type: /quote wallchops, you'll get unknown command, that means the ircd doesn't support it. Then join a random channel, gain ops then type /wallchops #channel test and it will work, thus meaning that /wallchops is indeed a client command.

I was partly incorrect, I just found these in versions.txt. It seems mIRC has a built-in workaround for servers that don't support the wallchops command, for backward compatibility it just calls the onotice command, which has its own routines for dealing with non-support.

28/08/97 - mIRC v5.1

Changes:
..
114. /wallchops command is now translated into the /onotice command.

-

26/04/2001 - mIRC v5.9

Changes:
..
44. Added support for numeric 005 WALLCHOPS token, mIRC will use
/NOTICE @<channel> :<text> if this token is set, instead of
using multiple targets.

-

17/02/2006 - mIRC v6.17

Changes:
..
40. Fixed formatting of outgoing wallchops/users/voices.

no need for that. If you haven't anything constructive to add, please keep it to yourself.
