After running 6.03 for a couple days on about 10 networks, I've noticed mIRC slowly eat more and more resources. This is with remote off, no DLLs loaded, etc. It gets to the point where mIRC freezes, and on a 4ghz/1gb machine, that shouldn't happen. Perhaps it's something in the multi net 'engine?' I've noticed loading 10 mIRC 5.91 copies on the same networks and channels, along with scripts and dlls loaded, collectively uses less resources than one mIRC 6.03 on the same networks and channels.

ok a couple questions .. what OS are u using ... are u running a background image ...... if u are not using any remotes, then possibly do u have a long window buffer??? ...... the last one i only ask as ive had a slightly noticable freeze even on mirc 6.03 with useing a background image .. and having a log buffer ....... aside from that i have heard there is a memory leak inside of either mirc or windows XP not sure which it was ...... but im sure someone will correct me

No background image, default scroll buffer. Excessive resources are being consumed on 2K, XP pro, and 2003 server. The resources of 10 mIRC v5.91's with the same exact scroll buffer, each on a different network, but collectively same as the one 6.03, and identical chans for each, collectively uses 80% of the resources that 6.03 uses while on the 10 networks and their various channels.

Now that I'm slightly less homicidal, I'll post without insults and whatnot. You can buy motherboards to handle up to 32ghz. Alpha server, for example. A dual AMD 2.2ghz, is another example. Quad Xeon, still another. I can go on and on and on listing all the other examples. Go to the companies' web sites for details on how to acquire the pricy items. I work hard so I can make my computer faster, better, etc.

theoretically no, it wasnt... but the way you asked provoked a response that needed to be deleted... both posts went at the same time as one didnt make much sense without the other. You're right tho, i could have left yours and just edited out the part that caused the misunderstanding, my apologies

Did this thread get off topic?
I get memory leaks too, I have scripts loaded, but why should that matter (No Dll's), the scripts uses hash tables but the number of entries changes very little. It's not XP, cuz I have win2k. I'll load mirc, it uses 6MB, in a few hours 11MB (Probably because of the hash tables being created, so sorta normal, although I don't think I have 5MB of data in the hash tables), in a week 20MB (wow, not because of the hash tables here)... after this, time to restart...

"Did this thread get off topic?"
only in that a question arose regarding the processer in question, which then led to a misunderstanding
several ppl have brought up issues with resources used, mite i suggest using the search feature here, all forums, all posts to read them.

That probably makes sense: the multi-server mIRC requires much more overhead than a single-server mIRC. More coding is required, etc. to handle the complexity of multi-server connections.
As to the resource usage or freezing issue, it's hard to say. I've run mIRC 6.03 on several channels for a week or more at a time and haven't experience the problem you're reporting. It may depend on a combination of settings, features, etc.
Without a specific method to reproduce it, it's very difficult to trace I'm afraid.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think it's something to do with XP. I'll try optimizing it for mIRC, and see if it makes any difference. As soon as Microsoft decides to deliver it, I'll test mIRC on 2003 server.
