Proxies would work, but most free ones are "open" proxies and many/most networks don't let you connect with open proxies because that's what spammers tend to use.

Instead, a better solution would be to use a bouncer (BNC).

gz extensions are similar to zip files. Setting up a bouncer isn't he easiest thing to do. You'll want to find a forum specific to doing so in order to find more detailed help. A common bouncer program is psybnc.

gz files usually refer to *nix archived files. To be honest if you want to use a bnc such as psybnc you would be a lot better off looking for a cheap shell account that will allow you to use vhosts

Theres lots of tutorials on setting up bouncers such as:
http://www.lunarshells.com/install_psybnc.php

They are generally setup on a *nix shell.

Most shell accounts will cost you (small amounts of) money...

If you do use proxy's, Be careful as alot of them are logged and they may log your passwords etc.
So can shells but they generally wont to keep you as a customer.

When choosing a shell account, Do some research on google and find out what other people have thought of that provider.

Have been reading a bit here, and i just want to add that the OP make shure the bnc suport the network/networks he/she using, many shell providers are k or even g lined on networks like ircnet and efnet, just so he/she dosent pay for a shell that are useless.
