This is a rather common issue and if you use the Search feature, searching for "+connection +refused" (without quotes), and expand the date range to 4 or 5 years, you'll find many threads with varying solutions.

Most commonly it's an antivirus/firewall, your ISP or if you're connecting at university/college it could be their network setup preventing you from connecting. It's not possible for us to pinpoint which issue, if any, is actually causing the problem, but it is not directly a problem with mIRC.

kk, well like i said, 6667 and one other port i believe i cant connect to, you cant narrow it down to that?

if i wanted to use the search button, and waste time looking for it i would.. but it would be easier to get a quick answer.

Connection refused means exactly that. You reached the host but your connection was refused. The reason could be a number of things, like there is no longer an IRC server being hosted, or maybe the server just went down (crashed?) temporarily and will be back up soon (eventually?). Try a different server on your network.

While most servers allow connections using port 6667, it's possible that the server you're trying to connect to doesn't. By telling us what network you're trying to connect to, we can try to connect ourselves and see what messages/responses we get. In addition, occasionally we'll have a helper here that is an IRC operator on the network in question, and if they see that there's a problem with one of their networks, they'll likely have a better chance of getting it resolved than someone that is just connecting.

That's the main reason we ask for the name of the network, which is what the query "what network" means.

Maybe your server command isn't configured correctly, so you're not actually using port 6667

Although you want an easy answer, searching really saves you time in the long run. The chances of having an answer that works for you already posted is good. The chances of someone coming in here in the next 6-12 hours that knows the right answer for your particular situation isn't very good. So searching would not be "wasting time", asking without looking would be.

Just try another port when connecting. If you are lucky, the network/server you want to connect to will accept more than just 6667. In any case, your problem will stem from some internet connection issue on your end (either in your home, or from your ISP).

This is contradictory to your earlier reply to Mentality where you stated
