I recently built a new computer so it's a clean install i'm thinking it could be some default setting thats interfering but i'm not sure what I doubt the problem is specific to Mirc but so far this is the only program i've had trouble with. I am "admin" of the computer so I shouldn't get permissions trouble..

Heres the error message if you need anymore information please just ask.

Hopefully a dumb question, but did you ensure that you are signed in under Windows using the Admin account? Just because you are admin doesn't mean you can't be using a regular user account.

I can ensure you. I have all privileges.

K, problem solved.

Heres what I did incase somebody else ever stumbles upon this problem.

1.Right click the file thats giving you trouble.
2. Click Properties.
3.Click the Security tab.
4.Click Advanced.
5.Uncheck the "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here" check box.
Afterwards a box comes up with three choices "copy" "remove" and "cancel".
Press "remove" and problem solved.

Sorry for the thread looks like I just needed to search a few more pages of google..

re-download the installation program from here.
Next run the installation using the options to override all settings. (I don't recall off hand the exact wording)
Be careful that your anti-virus program isn't detecting mIRC.exe as an infected program and auto-deleting it. If you get the installation from the link I provided, then the installation and the files in the installation are guaranteed to be virus free.

Additionally, don't start a second post (either new or as a reply) when you already have an identical topic posted.

The security tab isn't available in all versions of windows (such as Windows XP Home Edition).

I don't know about XP Home, but in XP Pro you can display the security tab by doing this:

- Open My Computer
- Tools menu > Folder options
- View tab
- Uncheck "Use simple filesharing"
- OK

That's not available in the home edition.
