Hi

I've been using mirc for years and never had any problems. Then for the last few months i've had intermittant problems connecting to the normal server.

The server i use is irc.chat-solutions.org. I've tried connecting to other servers instead, but while i could connect to irc.irc-chat.net for a while, that doesn't work now either.

What i'm getting on connection is...
* Connecting to irc.chat-solutions.org (6667)
-
-foshizzle.ca.us.hub.chat-solutions.org- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-foshizzle.ca.us.hub.chat-solutions.org- *** Found your hostname (cached)
-
* [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
* Disconnected
-
* Connect retry #1 69.80.195.68 (6667)
-
-foshizzle.ca.us.hub.chat-solutions.org- *** Looking up your hostname...
* [10053] Software caused connection abort
-
* Disconnected
-
* Connect retry #2 69.80.195.68 (6667)
-
-foshizzle.ca.us.hub.chat-solutions.org- *** Looking up your hostname...

-foshizzle.ca.us.hub.chat-solutions.org- *** Found your hostname (cached)

I can connect sometimes, i've been on 3 times today. But it works for a while and then kicks me off and won't let me back in. I've noticed that (and the reason i didn't post this into connection issues) when it won't connect the boxes in Local Info for local host and IP address are blank. The last time i connected, i recorded that information and have tried to paste it into the boxes, but it won't hold.

I'm using xp pro, just have zone alarm firewall, no router.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling mirc. I've tried rebooting. There just seems to be no rhyme or reason to when i can and can't connect frown It's driving me insane!! Please help!!

1:
Open the settings for mirc "Alt + O"

Then go to the tab "Connect"

Then go to the tab "Local Info"

Edit the settings there and see if it helps, if "Server" is checked, check "Normal", if normal is checked check "Server", if that dosent help, try disable zone alarm firewall and see if thats helps.

DO you have scripts loaded?

I've tried messing with the settings under 'local info'. Swopping local host and IP addy etc. Doesn't seem to make a difference. The last time i could connect i have local host and server checked.

How do i check for scripts??

I forgot to mention that i've tried it on a different computer and i have exactly the same problem frown

Try disabling the firewall just to see if that makes any difference. (You can enable it again after testing). Also, see what other programs are running that may be causing you problems, such as P2P programs. You may also want to try other networks, such as irc.undernet.org. Finally, you may want to contact your ISP about it as there may be something on their end if you don't find anything on your end.

also, could you be k-lined from a server - Some IRCd's such as conferenceroom only display the message once... then every reconnect attempt after dont.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, I just tried and made a good connection, so I would certainly look at any router/firewall settings. Make sure you have the right ports opened and forwarded.
As has already been suggested

Good luck
