Forums mIRC Help mIRC slowed down...

I reinstalled WinXP, and since then mIRC slowed down, so when I click a channel window, it takes almost a secont to activate it, and then the nick list reloads, so it disappears for a sec., and then appears agaian. And during this process I can't use my computer, the mouse pointer slows down. It is very annoying! Can you help me? I have mIRC 6.03 and never had this problem before... My computer is quite good, so it's not because of that!

Are you running any scripts? If you do, have you tried it without them? Do you have a large background file on your channel windows? Me and a few friends have the window activation problem when we have large backgrounds on XP.

Yes, I have an own script. I had a background image, but it was only 1,7KB. I swtitched it off, and now it's OK. Thank you!

The bad side to background images is that size doesn't matter all that much. If you have a 1 x 1 pixel image in the window it will slow down just as much.

For me that was never true, maybe there are more than one bugs to do with this. I tried 2 backgrounds (one was 1kb, one was 150kb) on win98 and winXP, win98 had no trouble on either, win XP only had trouble on the larger. Maybe I'll try it with different strect/fill/etc. settings.

You may also consider turrning off font smoothing, especially if you're using Clear Type(tm).
