My friends have a gamer server: irc.ufok.net

I am unable to connect to this server. Each time I try to connect I get a "Connection Refused" error. I am using version 6.1.7.0 with windows xp. I am on a college network. My college is Manchester College. Any ideas?

I have tried everything. Is it a firewall, or something?

As you are connecting from a college it is possible the IT admin has closed off the ports, try asking them.

well one of this forums "rules" is that you wont get help to get around port blocks. I agree wholeheartedly with it to as there is a reason why they are blocked in the first place. So go ask the admin and see if they are or not, you could always ask for them to be opened. But if not then the only real solution would be to find a network with non standard connection ports.
Good luck

They told me only a few ports are closed entirely, but I need some ports to try and use, any ideas?

Gee how nice of them to support their favorite IRC client, what a bunch of swell guys.

You're talking to them on their message board, ask their staff
if they have alternate user ports open, I tried several in the
range of 6664-6669,7000 and only 6667 worked.

if the server admin is a friend ask him to open a non standard port, he is using bahamut and it is real simple to add a listening port in that ircd. I doubt the IT admins will open 6667 for you at college.

Be aware however the college may terminate your connection, those ports are blocked for a reason

Exactly. If the college blocks IRC, then they will frown on you trying to get around that block. Most colleges (in the US) have an agreement as part of their handbook or even separate that states that the network is for educational use only. They usually don't complain about playing games over the network, but if they chose to, they could. IRC is another matter. They're more likely to get upset over that than over gaming. The results of that are either a warning or removal of internet connection from your dorm room or even expulsion.
