For some reason my mIRC Version 6.2 doesn't show what other people type. Is there any way to fix this?

Considering the number of other people that are using mIRC 6.2 on a regular basis, this is probably a problem with your installation and/or one or more scripts that you have loaded, rather than a bug in mIRC.

Have you tried running your mIRC without any scripts? You can save some time by using
Code:
/!remote off
to turn off your remotes (which will disable any scripts that you have loaded).

If it still continues in this fashion, ensure that you haven't accidentally set everyone on ignore by using
Code:
 /!ignore -r

If things still do not change (and I didn't mention this earlier, but you'll need to ensure (somehow) that you are in a channel where people are actually talking), then I can only suggest that you try re-downloading mIRC, from one of the official locations as listed here and try re-installing.
