I run mIRC 6.17 (in Windows 2000 Compatibility mode) on Windows XP x64 Edition, on an HP laptop, and I get sporadic crashes with mIRC.

It usually happens when the wireless signal is lost (disconnected) and then re-established. It's not always though - I think it may only be when DHCP fails and windows uses a local IP (169.254.*) that mIRC crashes. But as I said I'm not sure the exact conditions.

I'm not using any scripts or other add-ons.

Anyhoo, it's gettin a little annoying, as mIRC has crashed an average of once every 2 days or so...

Peace

It's probably compatibilty mode that's causing it somehow.
Try running mIRC without it, I have talked to many that have
had no problems with it at all, a couple have.

~ Edit ~
... or try it in a different compatibily mode, like 98/ME.

Also, I've found the crash especially occurs with ssl enabled. I suspect mirc has bugs with SSL_bind() when DHCP has not yet assigned an IP address.

Always seems to happen when connected to an ssl server and my wireless connection drops/reconnects.

My computer uses only wireless 802.11g for internet access

I have wireless as well, and if mine loses signal nothing happens to mirc at all, i wouldnt be supprised if its something underlying mirc thats giving up the ghost, and either crashing or causing mirc to crash, some wireless component thats not acting right when you loose connection.
I have a linksys wireless net and have not had any such mirc crashes when the same thing has happened (not that its happened often tho, so maybe its just fingers crossed).

mIRC 6.17 seems to have a lots of problems with SSL.
It does randomly crash here too, under Win2K, when I use SSL.
Some other people also have this problem (search for posts).
I'm considering to make it back to 6.16...
