Hi,

I haven't used mIRC for several years now. I recently down loaded and installed the latest version. However, I cant seem to connect. It keeps saying 'connection timed out'. I have Windows XP firewall and PC guard firewall. I've tried to log on with both firewalls switched off, and it still won't let me on. Any ideas?

Do you have a router? if so, ensure that the router is configured to allow IRC connections. If you don't know how to do that, check this site for assistance.

If you don't have a router, are you on DSL or Cable? If so, then there might be a router in your modem. Refer to the above link.

Do you get this with just one network or with all of them? If just one, then try another.

If you get this with most (or all) networks, then try reducing the number of programs that you have running, especially things like filesharing programs. Programs like that always use a lot of resources, and can prevent you from connecting by not allowing the connection information to be relayed to the server in a timeful manner.

Just a few suggestions for you to try.

In a case like this its not a router you would look to because they do not block outgoing connections, its the outgoing connections they are worried about.

Firewalls are a problem however because they block both ways, If you disabled all of them (including services) there should be no problem.

Also, make sure the server you are connecting to is reachable, sometimes the server that you are connecting to is there but doesn't respond, possible server side issues. Server may not even exist.
