Hi,
For some reason im getting a long load time for mirc. I run mirc and i see that initial screen w/ the 30 day trial. I click Continue, and then it seems to freeze for about 25 seconds.
Im pretty sure i dont have any spyware or viruses thats causing this.

Spyware, malware &/or viruses would be the first things I'd be confirming aren't causing a problem.
Once you've confirmed that your system is clean, the next thing I'd check are your system resources..how many processes are running? how much ram do you have? what size hard drive? Is your hard drive fragmented?

Any one or combination of those things can cause any program to run slow.

If, after you've eliminated all of those possibilities, try booting into safe mode and run mIRC and see if it's still slow.

Although, if it's still slow at that point, then I'm out of ideas.

well ive checked everything..viruses and spyware.
I do have enough resources to run it. It never happened before, this is just happening to me recently.

It doesnt really freeze, but during that time ther eis high CPU usage by mirc. After the 25 secs or so, mirc will run just fine. Its only when I open it that it does this.

I ran an API monitor and it just seems to be doing someone over and over for awhile.

I'll paste the log below..just the section where it repeats during the high cpu usage. Doesnt really mean anything to me because its not very specific.

Press Alt-R. Use Ctrl-F (and check the box for searching all files). Search for :start: (*with* the colons) and see if you have anything. If so, something there may be doing it. You can post those sections here if you want and maybe someone can tell you where the issue is. Beyond that, does this pause happen when loading and not joining any channels? Or does it happen only after you join a channel? If it's the last part, then do a search for :join: ... that will probably find a LOT of stuff, so it's best to make sure whether or not it's because of joining a channel or if it's just from starting mIRC.

My OS is WinXP. Mirc is 6.16.

I found out that this happens when mirc loads the "mirc Options" window (where you set ur name, etc..). Mirc by default will load the options window on start up, after the 30 day trial window.

So i uninstalled 6.16 and I tried out sysreset which is using mirc 6.14, and i did not have this long load time issued until I went to Tools->Options which brought out the options window. Sysreset will just auto connect to the server bypassing the options window which is why I did not encounter the issue at first when using sysreset.

im not sure why the option window would take this long to load up.

Any ideas?

I can still post any of the :start: finds if you still think it is an issue in the script somewhere.

Not if you go to Options .. Connect .. Options .. and uncheck the box for "Pop up connect dialog on startup"
