i believe it is possible (and i can say more: it's easy to make) that user in away mode can be piked up by mode char just like op (@) or voice (+)... as i can uderstand, mIRC gets /who #channel to see modes of users... so:

#Olivka Azure H@ ~user@ns.fast.net.ua :0 user
#Olivka Olivka H@ Olivka@host102-32-25.maxnet :2 user
#olivka End of WHO list.

H - means that user is "here"

#Olivka Azure G+ ~user@ns.fast.net.ua :0 user
#Olivka Olivka H@ Olivka@host102-32-25.maxnet :2 user
#olivka End of WHO list.

G - means that user is "gone"

So it will be cool that i can mark all away people with gray color in nicklist for example smile i hope that feature will be soon avaliable in next versin of mIRC

P.S. XChat by default marks away people with gray color

This has been discussed before, you may wish to use the Search feature to see other threads.

An /away can be set at any time. Therefore, mIRC would need to regularly /who channels you're in (which is, apparently, what Xchat does). This is terribly inefficient, and given the massive share mIRC has on IRC would be a huge burden on IRC networks.

Regards,

Mentality/Chris

This can also be done with mIRC Scripting. But as Mentality mentioned, it isn't efficient, as it relies on you having to /who every channel you are in (or setting a timer to do it).

as a server admin, if this system was implimented, i would haveto ban users useing that version of the client. Thats alot of unesicery bandwidth. xchat's share of the market isnt big enough for me to take that much action...but mirc comprises of...100% of my non bot users

It isn't as accurate as what you are suggesting, but I assume you are aware of mIRC's built-in nick coloring on idle users?
