I am buying amd64 3500+ processor and gonna install windows64 and I am aware that it may have dificulties with 32bit programs to work with it.

So I succest 64bit version. Is this gonna be made?

While the 64 bit processors are becoming more regular, I would imagine it probably will be, although your guess is as good as mine, or anyone else's as to when that will be. I don't have a 64 bit processor, but I understand that there is a compatability option in the CMOS settings, which will make it work with 32 bit programs.

In general, 32 bit applications should work okay with Windows64. You may wish to read this thread.

Personally, assuming the 16-bit elements inside mIRC theory is true, I would be happy to see mIRC just become a fully 32-bit application rather than have an mIRC 64-bit. Sure, 64-bit is becoming a little more mainstream now, but it's still in the minority by a long way.

personally, i think trying maybe the correct solution will be to create a (c) compiler to port any code to 32, 64, x bit, rather than wish for the programmer to start fresh assuming some arbitrary x32 0r x64 cpu variable requirements.

or code in a 64bit (or x bit) developing environment that can compile its variables to xbit (8, 16, 32 bit) counterparts depending on feedback from the mobo chipset.

not that there would be any benefit to the average IRCer in having 64 bit code...

ps-what do you guys think of a new imoticon (maybe could turn into sophoclese thinking with the little bubble icon above his head?
