Some people who have routers don't want others hogging the connection, and some people don't want to lag when they're playing games while downloading photos from friends. I would appreciate it if mIRC itself would have its own limitter for speeds, rather than having to use an external program to deal with it, because it's quite pointless to waste system resources (my slow computer needs every bit of it) to limit overall download speed when you're just using mIRC.

Well I can only say two things to this.

(1) If its just pics from freinds your downloading, then stop and get them later, its not that you had to wait in a queue for these "pictures from friend" is it?

(2) If your router is any good it can control the speed of connections running through anyway. Look for a section labeled QoS (Quality of Service)

Mighty big pictures to cause lag in games. laugh

I think you need to come up with a better excuse for downloading that "pics from friends" as the cause of game lag. Most pictures can be downloaded very quickly and won't lag any games.

Just as an add on to what i said, I just tried out the QoS support my router has (i had never used it before but had been informed that it works ok, thought i better check on it if i was going to spout off about using it) and well all i can say is, throw away ya software controls this thing works to a tee. Router was a Linksys WRT54G & also to a lesser extent availabe on a WAG54G (adsl modem/router)
