When I use IE all I get is page not found.

When I use FireFox all I get is IRC is not a registered protocol.

It was all working before I reinstalled software on my PC. What is going on now? My mIRC used to pop up perfect before..but now I get nothing.

Any clue?

Thanks

Here is one topic on this. As a note, downloading illegal programs/music/movies/etc obtained by searching packetnews and other sources isn't supported on this site.

Be careful about making assumptions, some people might take offence at being accused of downloaded illegal software.

However, thank you for the reply but unfortunately the link didnt help.

I have removed all programs and reinstalled mIRC 1000 times. I see on the web that there are a few with the same problem, but there is never a solution at the ends of the threads.

Is this problem really that hard to solve?

Enable chatlinks in mIRC Options -> IRC -> Catcher.

If you happen to be legally downloading from packetnews, then I'm sorry for making such an assumption. However, as most stuff on packetnews is warez or other illegal materials, it's a valid assumption.

Collective, does that have an affect on links from browsers? I'd think it would be a browser/internet setting and not a mIRC setting. I can't test from here as irc:// links are blocked where I'm at. I'd think that option (and from the help file, I'd still think it) is for irc:// links in a channel or msg or whatever.

I am using the latest edition of IE.

I have tried several other irc sites but when I click on the browser link all I get is: The page cannot be displayed

Last week it all worked well so my reinstall has effected a setting.

Is there something on IE that is rejecting irc sites?

Yes, which is why I suggested it. The effect is making them work at all.

mIRC doesn't support irc:// links in it's own windows (unless you script it).

fallyhag: Make sure you enable Chat Links, as I said. If they already are enabled then disable them, close the options window, and enable them again.
