/window @test filename.txt

The preceeding code should allow me to read a text file into the custom window, however, this is not the case. The text file comes in somewhere, but not the main window. What occurs is the text file enters itself into the menu, each line of the menu is made of one line from the text.

/loadbuf @test readme.txt

that command did exactly what was supposed to be done.
No big problems doing it, but some old scripts are struggling.

This is exactly what /window is supposed to do. Type /help /window and read more carefully.

Even without reading, the parameter name gives it away a bit if you ask me

thats what I get for not reading the fine print, maybe next time I will stop listening to the person whining. Not that the channel really helped. My mistake none the less.
