So I guess I just have terrible luck with where I choose to live, because every apartment complex I live in has an ISP that has some stupid firewall that destroys my ability to be able to use mIRC how I want.

In this current scenario, mIRC now is hardly able to connect to any servers at all. I have all the default settings in place. It will either take forever to connect and then will go so slow it eventually just quits, or gives the ever-so-friendly message:

* [10053] Software caused connection abort

I called a tech guy and he told me to "simply use another port". Yeah, well IRC ports are 6665-6669,7000, are they not? Someone please help remedy this before I explode from frustration frown

Those are the common IRC ports, however, I've seen ports as low as 6000 used. However, changing your port isn't going to make much difference with the 10053 error. There is a huge topic regarding this error, along with some solutions that people have found that worked for them. Note: No one has yet come up with a single solution that works for everyone.
