The fact you said, other programs also & you scaned and deleted all viruses inferes that there were some viruses and this problem exists outside of mirc. Well not all virus remove cleanly, one may have been removed but has destablized your entier OS causeing programs to fail.

While I dont quote this as a fixall, i have often found that simply installing the OS ontop of itsself, well fix alot of these little things, since its an install ONTOP of itself (not a REINSTALL) your programs etc well remain. I also wouldnt be suprised if there is still some spyware onboard, try MS antispyware app as well, the damn thing misses thinsg others get but find things they miss. Tipical MS software (even tho they just brought it from someone else).

Yeah, the repair feature reinstalls without loss of data, so can be helpful. Just be sure you back up all important data as there is no guarantee that the repair will work correctly. Depending on the situation, a repair can actually make your system worse (unbootable).

Yes backing up before any repair job is critical for safe recovery. I always do a harddrive wide backup, and must say most of the systems i deal with these days have all there data on secondary drives rather than the OS, so ill either remove or disable or try and alter access rights to them before a reinstall.

My personal opion on data on the OS drive can be summed up with this little one i was told.
When you go on a car holiday would you put your lugauge under the hood with the engine?
