After some research i did with Zonked of help.script at quakenet i think this is a bug. http://www.mircscripts.org/comments.php?cid=2331 This script gave me at SOME files the error: * /splay: unable to play 'C:\Mijn documenten\muziek\WWE - The Anthology\CD1\01-cd1-unknown-world_wrestling_federation_signature-wcr.mp3' (line 1295, mp3.mrc) There aint no character problem sinds i got it with some shorter files as well. http://nomorepasting.com/paste.php?pasteID=41607 is the part wich gave me the error. I hearth from Zonked it might be a problem of ME and Lower and if it is, i hope you can fix this. P.S: Those are all .mp3 format at the same folder.

its a space error
$shortfn(C:\Mijn documenten\muziek\WWE - The Anthology\CD1\01-cd1-unknown-world_wrestling_federation_signature-wcr.mp3)
still returns
C:\Mijn documenten\muziek\WWE - The Anthology\CD1\01-cd1-unknown-world_wrestling_federation_signature-wcr.mp3
and "" doesnt always work either if the filename has many spaces like yours.
mIRC doesnt like spaces too much

It isnt a space bug couse i only have one space and the filenames dont have spaces. right now

Note that some MP3s use a weird format and mIRC cannot play them at all.
Also, sometimes you run into problems with the path/filename being too long.
Try changing the name to something small without spaces and with no symbols (e.g. test.mp3) and try playing it.

should have its short file name counter part i dont know why its not shortening that.
C:\Mijn documenten\muziek\WWE - The Anthology\CD1\01-cd1-unknown-world_wrestling_federation_signature-wcr.mp3 from your orginal post still has 3 spaces. i thought my eyes were playing tricks with me there for a moment.

And its not a char prob 2. its a mirc bug or smt:S

that is a codec problem,
i also got this with some mp3, if you install some codec packs or update windows media player it will be solved.

Can you (same user) play these files using another mp3 player?
Maybe its access rights tot he file/folder?

Yes i can play it with winamp, windows media player, I will try with VLC player now.
Edit: works with all, Althou i shall download windows media player 9 tomorro i have 7 now, maybe that was it
I will be back tomorro to say its solved or stil on.

Like I mentioned, some MP3s will not play in mIRC without using a winamp plugin... they don't work with splay. And, as another mentioned, it's a codec issue.
They will work in Windows Media Player, but not with splay.

As I recall, mIRC uses windows media player to play mp3s. The stuff about winamp plugins is completely meaningless. Ignore it. If it plays in WMP, it should work in mIRC. Maybe mIRC has problems with older WMP, tho. My bet is that upgrading will fix it, but will have to wait and see.
If I knew now what I will know then... maybe things will have been different...

Well, I know I have certain MP3s that work perfectly fine in WMP and not in mIRC with splay. They work fine with a winamp plugin in mIRC.
I had also thought it worked using WMP, but I wonder if perhaps mIRC doesn't use codecs from WMP, so that it will play any MP3 that doesn't require a special codec, but not ones with special codecs even if WMP has the codec and can play it. Just a thought since I don't know much about how it works.

I've heard of cases (I *think* I've come across one too) where an mp3 plays in WMP but not in mirc, the filename not being a factor. I have no idea when/why that happens though.

I'm not sure if anyone here is an expert on audio files. If so and someone wants to look at a MP3 that works in WMP and not in mIRC, I have one that doesn't work in mIRC that I could provide for examining. (It's actually an old Chipmunks song  ).

The only problem I've ever had with mIRC not playing files media player will is when I renamed a .wma to a .mp3.
