how come i get this when i try to "/authserv auth"

Because there's no service on that network called authserv.

To find out what services are available on a specific network, and how each service works, join the #help channel on that network. If it appears that there isn't a #help channel, try doing /list *help*
That will bring up a list of all channels on the network with the word "help" in the name.

it tells me auth requires more parameters.

what does that mean?

parameters = password?

/authserv auth <your password>

This could maybe be the reason you're not being opped also,
speaking of your other post. Try to auth and then rejoin your
channel.

You would have given a password if you registered your nick.
If you didn't register your nick then you must not have registered
your channel either. Try /authserv help register

When and if you register with AuthServ, you specify a password you want with that account. This has nothing to do with mIRC as a program, if you used a totally separate program to connect to the IRC network then your password would still be valid.

If you didn't receive a confirmation email, usually your account will expire aftr 24-48 hours, so your account may not exist anymore.

However, the best thing to do is to go to your network's #help channel, or other official help channel, and ask them to help you - as stated, a network's services are unique to the network and they are better qualified to help you. Check out the network's website too for online documents. If you don't know the website, search Google.
