Not sure if anyone minds me asking for opinions on my script. If so, just remove this post or ask me to remove the link.

I'd just like some opinions on my weather script... if there is anything you'd recommend for improving it. It has two parts ... a server part and a user part. The user part is an optional GUI.

I've gotten many people complimenting it, but they're not scripters. So I wanted to see what scripters thought of it. Many of you know more than I do and could probably offer good advice on improving it.

Well, I said it the other day and I'll say it again I do like this script alot. If you don't have the option to choose the temperature in both celcius and fahrenheit.

Another addition and it isn't too big of a problem but in the dialog on all tabs you have Weather information from "http://www.weatherunderground.com/" I think instead of the text control it should be the link control, to click and go to the site etc.

On a side note, what is "01020" is that like the code number for Chicopee, Massachusetts? If it is then maybe an On Text event (if not added already) listing all the codes for different locations with the /play command.

Either way, if they're not added it wouldn't make the script any more or any less than what it is already, excellent work mate!

All the best,

-Andy

Just from the screenshots I can see you did a lot to get all that off the weatherunderground site, there is a lot of advertising and so on on there to filter out.
I didn't look at your script but I wonder if you have it set to only use zipcodes, or did you include non-USA cities using the city, country format they support.
Also did you work around their inclusion of personal weather stations that on some of the zipcodes pre-empts the "official" weather in the page?

Ahh, you answered my question, it's Zip code!

If it doesn't support non users cities/states I think that'd be a pitfall because I'm not in the U.S and their weather would be no use to me at all unless I am going on a holiday in which I'll buy a laptop or go stay with a mate who has mIRC and download the weather script. grin

Good idea for the link. I didn't think of that.

For Celsius/Fahrenheit, the GUI has that along with conversion of miles to kilometers, inches to centimeters and pressure to hPa. I plan to include all that in the server version when I get a chance as a switch (!weather -m (metric)).

As for locations, you can use the following search methods:

Zip code (US and Canada)
City, State (US)
City, Country (Non-US)
Airport Code (Everywhere)

For listing the zip codes, that would be way too big of a list. But I think you realized that when you realized it was a zip code. smile

And, for the "personal weather stations" ... you'll need to give me an example.

I had to go look at why the weather script I did back in 2000 was not acting right on that (and others that have a personal weather station instead of an airport as their source) and it would be easy to fix mine, if I wanted too.
I am curious though why you wanted to have a GUI server and a client, rather than just the "stand alone" that can post on a request as well as show only in the dialog on a manual request.
Also, did you set your !weather request to use the nickname of the "server"? If two servers are in one channel it might create confusion or maybe flood someone if you don't have to specify the nick like !weather Riamus.

That is true... though there is no reason to have more than one... maybe I'll see about adding that.

And, I do plan to make a standalone version. I had originally started making a channel one for a bot to run and decided to add a GUI for users afterwards.

As a side note, it is less bandwidth use for a person running this GUI than using a standalone version. For some people, that is important. It isn't really why I did it like this.
