I have been using IRC and recently I get the following message when I try to connect to a server.

"[22:25] -boston.ma.us.galaxynet.org- *** Looking up your hostname
-
[22:25] -boston.ma.us.galaxynet.org- *** Found your hostname (cached)
-
[22:25] -boston.ma.us.galaxynet.org- *** Checking for ident server
-
[22:27] Ping? Pong!
-
drone.
-
[22:27] Closing Link: nickname
[cm224.delta243.maxonline.com.sg] by Boston2.MA.US.GalaxyNet.Org (K-lined)
-
[22:27] * Disconnected
-"

Can someone help me out? What is a drone? This never happened to me before.

Look at your ident information or your nick. If you have something like "asfdf" for your ident or nick, servers can assume you're a drone and automatically kill you. Also, if you're at a university or other EDU or any other connection where many people have the same IP address, if too many of you connect to a network at the same time, it will assume you're all the same person. Only way around that one is to contact the IRC network and explain the situation and see if they'll put your IP on a "safe" list.

Also, check to see what your VERSION information is (have someone "/ctcp nick version" you. If anything other than the mIRC version reply is there, then you might also be marked as a drone because of the version reply.

A K-line or G-line is a ban from a server or network respectively. They are unique to the server/network you're experiencing them on - like being banned from a channel, being banned from one doesn't ban you from them all. Being banned on one network doesn't ban you from all of them.

It can only be dealt with by the IRC Operators of the IRC network you're banned from, visit their website, find out the team or person who deals with K-lines, and find a contact email address.

Regards,

Mentality/Chris
