Ok after reading all the posts in this part of the forum I feel so lost. I have read about variables, popups everything and it is all greek to me. All I want to do is make it to where when I leave a channel a message pops up in the channel when I quit.

example: say my nick is tammyp I want it to say in a channel when I part it that says something like tammyp has left #channel (please join me on #channel)

Can someone help a ditzy blonde out...thanks

As I said. I am new. excuse me. And also I see people leaving channels all the time with things like that. Sorry. Don't jump down my throat please thank you. But thanks for at least letting me know that before I got into trouble.

P.S. then can anyone tell me if there is a place to try and getpeople into a room...like advert channel or anything. Thank you

It is rude, but by no means impossible. Depending on the ops of the room and, maybe even, the system ops, doing something like that could get you banned from the room or even the server.

While the coder in me would like to help, the op says Don't...so I'm sorry, but I won't help with this.

As far as an advertising channel is concerned, that would depend on the server. Some servers have radio channels that will promote rooms, and some rooms will even allow the promotion of other rooms (although these are getting fewer & fewer)

Yes the first reply ever so eliquently told me it is wrong. as in my first reply I thanked himfor letting me know that was considered spam. And now 'm not going to do that. I am new to the internet. When my sister moved she gave me her computer and I just started using internet. I didn't even know what spam email was until a month ago. So I really don't need help with that now. I am going to ask someone to help me put a funny message for when I leave a channel. So as I put in my reply I know now it is wrong. But thank you for replying

I hope that you enjoy your time on the internet and chatting with mIRC. There are a few topics that you should read before you post in the forums, as they'll give you a fairly clear idea as to what is and isn't acceptable and in what forums. If you're still not sure if your question is acceptable, by all means, post it. Generally the worst that will happen is that a moderator will see that you've posted an improper topic and lock it.

I don't see a problem with this as long as the message isn't too intrusive, use "You can find me on #channel" instead of "You can find me on #channel"

/part You can find me on #channel

Not all networks support part messages however.

Why code anything at all?

Wouldn't /PART #Channel <Message> work?

The problem is, it is spam. It not being in bold red does not make it any less spam, it just makes it less obvious spam. We don't help with spamming here. OCCgirl already said she now recognises that and that she's not going to do it.

OCCgirl, if you're just getting started then this website has a lot of info for you smile - Check out the Intro to IRC and Intro to mIRC. You can also type /ircintro in mIRC. You might also check out this tutorial. Also, whilst some info is specific to DALnet, they have a good guide here regarding "netiquette".

thank you for the recap. And as far as the second post you quoted, I may be new to the internet, but not stupid. I knew he was lying about not being able to leave unique messages. Not only did his putting ISN'T IT GUYS all capital letters give it away. But also the fact that I always see people leave a channel and most had different messages when they left.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll catch on to this stuff
wink

i realised that mentality, but i was just making a statement for all more or less.. not to insult anyone or to insinuate anything. because to me, it seemed like OCCgirl was getting insulted and i know no one meant to do that(if she was). but, perhaps i should not have said anything on the subject, since it appears i didn't help anything at all..
