Hi everyone,

Everytime I download games or movies, my speed does not get higher than 50 kB/s. My maximum speed is 170 kB/s. How is this possible?

Bots like these still run at 50 kB/s:
Slots: 4/5 Queues: N/A Max KB: 1164.4
Slots: 64/75 Queues: N/A Max KB: 4985.2

Running:
mirc 6.16 ; windows xp ; no firewall

Thanks in advance,

Necroth01

mIRC is not a file sharing program, please see this thread to see why we don't help with it.

I think we need another mIRC is not a file sharing program sticky thread (perhaps). Maybe in bold or beautiful coloured text to make the point stand out.

lol, I found this by chance while doing a search for something else.

I think the idea of having a globally incompassing "we dont help becuase its a file transfer" is a bit of a weak cop out. I saw you link someone to the same thread mentioned here when they asked about fileservers not connecting, That seemed like a legit problem for the forum, I mean mirc does have a fileserver part to it doesnt it, or is that being quietly sweept under the mat?

Why cant you just say to him, regardless of what someone else was able to achieve as there speed between a fileserver and themselfs, this maynot be true for you, mirc in no way limits the speed of your recieves, so if it wont max then something beyond mirc, likely beyond your pc, at your ISP or beyond there is causing a bottle neck. It could even be that The fileservers max recorded speed is not realistic as it was done between there pc and a pc on there same ISP, which may have ment no BW max on sending.

I dont normally read this channel so I might be tossing out my opion out of hand, but I would find it annoying if someone asked in the scripting forums for help with $decode and was told "no we dont help with that becuase its used for virus's"

There have been many discussions about this issue, searching for some should help. You may wish to see this and this.

MSN = Microsoft Network

mIRC is an IRC client for Windows.

IRC is a protocol used for real time text chat. mIRC is just one of many IRC clients that let you connect to an IRC server/network.

DCC stands for Direct Client Connection. It is a seperate protocol that allows a user to connect directly to another users computer bypassing the IRC network. The pros are you can chat privately with less lag and can swap files like photos, freeware and shareware, text files, etc. The cons are that many people are using DCC to exchange illegal/copyrighted material like MP3's, software, movies, porn. It's also a great way to pick up a computer virus, so it's not a good idead to accept DCC's from strangers. Use with caution.
