I get the following when I try to connect to an undernet server:

* Connecting to fairfax.va.us.undernet.org (6665)
-
-fairfax.va.us.undernet.org- *** Looking up your hostname
-
* Identd request from 199.184.165.133
* Identd replied: 2639, 6665 : USERID : UNIX : Pre
-
-fairfax.va.us.undernet.org- *** Checking Ident
-
-fairfax.va.us.undernet.org- *** Got ident response
-
-fairfax.va.us.undernet.org- *** Found your hostname
-
Closing Link: by fairfax.va.us.undernet.org (Registration Timeout)
-
* Disconnected

I live at a university and their firewall is fairly annoying and I connect fine at home and anywhere else, so I like to blame them and not my computer for this.

If anyone can give me exact instructions on what I need to change in my settings, or if I need to go bitch at the IT department until they loosen their firewall, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yep, you'll need to speak to the IT Dept. and get them to sort it out if you think it's that, which is fairly likely. That said, it's odd that it cuts out at that point, usually when firewalls involved it will just block the connection completely. It might be something else network-related though.

Make sure you try other IRC networsk too to make sure it's not a problem with the server, although this is unlikely.

As a note, be aware that if your IT Dept. say they don't want people accessing IRC, or refuse to sort the problem out, we don't help with going against their rules.

Mentality/Chris
