Ok, ummm I'm not even sure where to start.

I wanna write an addon that manages somehow to work in conjunction with TMPGEnc.
Its a video encoding program, and I've seen an addon that functions with VirtualDub, although admittedly it used a custom written dll I believe.
Basically I'd want it to access TMPGEnc, if it was running and display encoding status, time remaining etc. I can make all the popups and coding in mIRC, but how do you get mIRC to function with an external program? I've been trawling around various sites, but none seem to explain very well. I wondered if anyone here had any ideas.
Any ideas/help woul be great.
