Forums General Discussion Channel Recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a server (maybe their own?) that supports channel and nick registration, topic setting and op abilities please? I've had a channel on Dalnet recently, but Dalnet appears to be very unreliable for some reason :-(

Try looking through www.searchirc.com or http://irc.netsplit.de/networks - many networks have been submitted to those and you can find out if they support services on those websites.

Why do you find DALnet to be unreliable? Do you mean connection wise? You can usually connect through irc.dal.net, however, should you have problems, you might try:
mesra.dal.net
jade.dal.net
mozilla.dal.net

I've had a channel in use on Dalnet for about 2 weeks now, but for the last 3 days, nobody has been able to connect to it using Mirc or via Jpilot. It keeps saying 'can't connect to server'.

I've given up on Dalnet lol.
