Otay this is odd, its happened a few times now. I have mIRC set to goto the tray when I minimize but not to stay in the tray when Its not minimize. I minimized mIRC and went about my buissness. I heard the tell tale BEEP which means I have a PM. I look in the tray mIRC is gone. I loaded task manager and it says mIRC is running I loaded another mIRC client from another folder, and there I am .

This has been reported before (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), for me it only happens under high load as suggested in #5.

The posts also contain a number of solutions which worked for me.

Off Topic, what's the big deal about how high your uptime is? I never understood why people would rather have a slow computer that's been on for ages than a fast computer that's been on for like a day at most.

Honestly (and this gets off topic) I think MAYBE originally people did it to prove that windows COULD be left on (not that it SHOULD be left on) a long time so that *nix users wouldnt bash the OS nearly as much. Some people will even go so far as to say WHY they need to keep it on that long. Personally, I never saw the use either, but then I dont have the desire/need to either *shrug*

If you suffer from some mental issue (like me) which, when you lose valuable buffer and it's like pulling the plug on a loved one, the thirst of nostalgia is gone, history being smashed into minute fragments of electrons wizzing through the universe into nothingness, then restarting is an issue.

And I managed to keep my W95 machine up for 10 weeks straight, with only minimal effect on performance.

Unfortunately, I have updated (and thus rebooted) too often on this machine to get anywhere near that!

Back to the original topic - I agree that a graceful reboot/reset to improve performance is a much more desirable thing these days, Windows is a lot more stable and there is nothing to prove!

Cheers,

DK
