"although i bet 80% of your customers are using it for dccing"

Two points really. Firstly, nobody is *my* customer, all registration money goes to Khaled and in certain months he sends all of that money to a charity. All of the helpers here, including regulars, moderators and the only other admin Krejt are brilliant volunteers who donate their time for free to help others. Secondly, whilst I think the use of mIRC as a file trading program I don't think it's quite as bad as 80% of the mIRC population just yet wink

"why put in the options for it if you dont want people to use it?"

DCC is a protocol that Khaled did not invent. mIRC cannot remove 'DCC' from itself, it could remove the /dcc aliases etc. but not the protocol, it is not something directly related to mIRC as other clients support it too. The FServe in mIRC is small and crude and was designed years ago, and to the best of my knowledge the mass file sharing programs/scripts that are around today do not use this FServe for their means.

I use 0% of my time "grabbing files", the only files I get are files that friends have sent me and they are pictures or text/script files. Getting mp3s, movies, software etc. is illegal and a good way to get a virus, but good for you that you scan everything you download, the large majority do not smile

"im gonna try a reinstall of mirc aslong as this doesnt mess up the registry in anyway?"

If you uninstall via Add/Remove programs and delete all icons/folders related to mIRC, then download mIRC only from this page no harm should be done to your registry. If you have set a password in the general lock area I do believe that will still be there after an uninstall, but that has nothing to do with this problem.

"sound drivers, ups drivers, mouse drivers, access lock, nav2k4, zone alarm 5, bandwidth monitor pro 1.29, and mirc, oh & the clock"

ZA shouldn't be causing the issue as many people run it. You might try disabling that bandwidth monitor for the time being and see if it makes a difference, but otherwise nothing looks like it would affect CPU usage :-)

G'luck!
