I just got a new laptop and for most irc servers I try to connect to, I get this:

* Connecting to irc.gamesurge.net (6667)
-
* Unable to connect to server (Permission denied)

I've already added mIRC to my firewall exceptions and have tried typing "ipconfig /flushdns" into command prompt but still get that message. Can anyone help please? confused

I have the exact same problem..

* Unable to connect to server (Permission Denied)

No one can tell me what it means. It's a new problem, I've been able to connect in the past. I've tried disabling my firewall temporarily without luck. I've tried a fresh install of mIRC which didn't work either. My other computer using the same connection through wifi can connect fine. Please help.

Same thing if you connect to any other network? dalnet, quakenet ?

I can connect to DALnet and Quakenet, The trouble is with Undernet.

Try a different server, also try to connect with different ports.

I have all the servers on this page: http://www.undernet.org/servers.php and all the ports listed in my servers.ini file, and it won't connect to any of them ): it either says permission denied or connection timed out every time

Try DNS the server, then connect to the IP of the server, can solve your problem.

That doesn't work either! Appreciate the help, still stuck. I'll try the Undernet forum and contacting them.

Try change the settings in mirc?

ALT + O
Connect
Local

Try change the values there, and see if that helps.

Edit

Tested to connect to irc.gamesurge.net 6667, i had no problem with that server.

I can connect to irc.gamesurge.net with either lookup method but not Undernet. Appreciate your help. Is the error message (Permission Denied) from Undernet ? If not what does it mean ?

It means you are not allowed to use that server, you should try use a server closer to you. If you are from usa you should try find servers with *.us in the end, same for me, im in sweden, *.se would work for me.

I wondered if it was caused by something incorrect in my setup or something like that. I live in New Zealand, there used to be an Undernet server here but it's gone. Doesn't look like Undernet is doing too well these days. I'll try their forums. Really dissapointed with an error message with no info or instruction.

/server eu.undernet.org

/server us.undernet.org

try if you can connect to one of them..

Can't connect to any Undernet server. I've got 25 servers in my servers file and I get Permission Denied or Connection Timed Out on all of them.

"Permission denied" sounds like firewall or anti-virus disallowing outgoing connections.

For me this was caused by malware bytes. When I unchecked the protection box for "malicious websites" I was able to connect again.
