I never chat. Now mIRC starts on boot. There is no uninstall. the isnt a file anywhere with "mirc" in it.
I did NOT install this program.
read the thread 2 places above this 1.
thanks! Ya know- it would be nice if people would read a little more before the post!
Actually you did. mIRC doesn't install itself - it is not a trojan or virus or something. If mIRC is on your computer, you or someone else installed it.
So you're saying it is impossible for mIRC to be
installed via a trojan ? If you think that, you're a fool.
Actually you did. mIRC doesn't install itself - it is not a trojan or virus or something.
you mean that the original mirc by khaled isnt a trojan/virus.
but whats stopping people hacking the exe?
if someone adds a virus to the exe, then yes it is a virus.
also, someone could make a trojan to download and install mirc.
If you want to be 100% shure its gone.. then do a format c: and reinstall windows
Why not open msconfig, goto startup tab, deselect entry for mirc, remember path to mirc, close msconfig, open task manager, end-task mirc, close task manager, delete mirc folder, goto refrigerator, open refrigerator, get beer, open beer, chug beer, get another beer, close refrigerator, goto favorite easy chair, sit down, open beer, take drink, take drink, take drink, relax.
Edit: Repeat steps $10- until you pass out and all will be right with the world.
ive only ran into 1 worm that does this (blaster worm), but some worms modify what runs on startup, thats why i had so much trouble getting rid of it ;[
Ahem!
It IS possible for a trojan to install mIRC. Damn easy even, it just has to get a file off the server, run said file, push some buttons. I could do it in VB even.
Its also possible to decompile mIRC, fix all the errors that always seem to happen when you use a crappy decompiler, then add in trojan/virus-like code. Which is why (or at least one good reason why) they tell you to download mIRC from this site and nowhere else.
(Its also illegal in a couple of ways, of course.)
Ahem! if you would <> read my post again .. You would see that I'm not the one who said mIRC couldn't be installed by a trojan .. locutusofborg was/is.
<Brat note: ppl do occasionally click the wrong post to reply to, lets not start a flame war over it pls>
