i am having a terrible time uninstalling this program. i do not want it, nor do i have any idea how i recived it. every time i try to uninstall it, it tells me to exit mIRC first. the problem is that i cannot find it on my computer, anywhere. it does not come up in the task manager, nor is there a icon for it in my bar at the bottom. please help me, i have virtually no space in my harddrive, and i want to free up as much as possible.

Sounds like you managed to get one of the trojans that drop a copy of mIRC as part of their payload. See this thread which has info and links on what to do.

i know, puters can seem overwhelming sometimes! Lets try this, first read this part of mIRC's website just to help you understand a bit better whats going on and why its important to fix it no matter how confuzzling. Then i would go to trendmicro's web site and run their free online scanner. It will tell you what it finds, and also have info at their site that will tell you what if anything else you need to do. Be patient, it may take a while to load and run, but dont worry, its safe.

There are cleaners you can download and run, but without knowing the exact prob its hard to say which may do the job for you. There are also channels on some networks where the ops (the ppl with the @ beside their nicks) are very knowledgeable and can help you one on one, like on DALnet #nohack and on Efnet #dmsetup or #mircfix.

well i did waht you said, and it found 12 infected files. i deleted the files (except for 2 that it could not, because they were in use.). then i restarted my computer to see if it helped. it didn't look like it did. but i went to my add/remove rograms, and was finally able to remove it. looks like it worked.

thank you for your help. i really appreicate it.

i would still perform another scan just to make sure that you are rid of it.

you're welcome. i agree, i would run another scan just to check, and also look around that site for info on what was found just in case there may be extra tips you should follow
