The built-in highlight feature does not have a way to exclude some nicknames/addresses, I think having this feature implemented in ignore would make sense, /ignore -h <nick|address> would be very handy.
Writting a script to do that which respect the built-in highlight feature's settings is non trivial if not impossible

Also, highlights might also respect the per-channel "Flashing" menu item, as many people believe it does or should. I honestly don't mind if most channels flash on highlight, but not all channels and not all queries all the time.

It's just the flashing bit that can get really annoying at times, not necessarily the colorization of text. Ie, someone becomes needy.
