Hello,

wouldn't be a good idea to switch the client's default to UTF-8 ? That way, people would mostly use that universal charset and there would be less :

1/ Trolls
2/ Kicks for stupid reasons

In opposition, there would be more :

1/ Universality
2/ Readability

in all channels. Some users (Israeli and Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russia... people) are on both english and local language rooms, sometimes on multi-specialcharset rooms. UTF-8 by default would ease their life and would make IRC better.

I'm curious how that would remove trolls or kicks...?

Trolls flood with UTF-8 text knowing that it looks like jargon on some people's screens.

People get kicked for writing in other languages for the same reason as above - sometimes it looks like crap on the ops' computers.

Heh. People flood one way or another. You just take action against it. They'll do it another way if it isn't through UTF-8 encoding. As far as being kicked, that's just stupid ops. whistle

Ok, well I don't mind either way. I'll have it off no matter which way is the default.
